U.S. Out of California

“This is the first time that federal government has attacked California rather than agreeing with it” on air pollution standards, said V. John White, a longtime clean-energy lobbyist in Sacramento. “They have become a hostile force as opposed to a partner. They are an enemy, and they prefer the interests of the auto industry over the interests of the health of our people and state.”

“Californians will realize again that maybe it’s time to secede from the Union,” said Hal Harvey, environment director for the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

U.S. Rep. John Conyers to investigate the federal Drug Enforcement Administration's use of "threatening letters" to target medical cannabis dispensaries throughout California. The DEA's unrelenting raids continue to place citizens in harm's way, undermine state and local authority, and jeopardize the integrity of state law.

Immigration agents detained a pregnant mother Tuesday morning at a California elementary school. The woman's frightened 6-year-old daughter was told to go to class as her mother was led away for questioning. Tuesday afternoon after school, dozens of parents, teachers and students came together to decry the event. "This is supposed to be a safe place," Noemi Contreras, whose children attend the nearby middle school said. "They are scaring people with everything that is happening." In the last month three parents have been detained or placed in detention. "The fact that parents and children don't know if they're going to see each other at the end of the day is very difficult, psychologically, for our kids, continued Contreras"
